ReFi Barcelona is a local node of ReFi DAO. It connects the regenerative movements of Catalonia, many of them from the social and solidarity economy, with newer tools for finance, technology and governance. It calls itself “a collective of practitioners”, and it is a cooperative in formation, incubated at Bloc4BCN.
I started it with a small group in 2023 and have led its strategy since.
What it has done
- The ReFi Unconference Barcelona, in April 2024, with the Crypto Commons Association and Trusted Seed.
- BioFi Barcelona, in spring 2025, a conversation about bioregional finance.
- Regenerant Catalunya, a participatory funding round for eleven local projects, in 2025 and 2026.
My part
Besides strategy, the knowledge side. I set up the node’s knowledge base and its map of the local ecosystem, and later the systems the team works in.
Is it a big organization? Not really. It is three people and a network of partners.
